Showraberia Nivedita SevaAt Showraberia Nivedita Seva Niketan, community health is more than a programme – it is a lifelong commitment. Since 1994, we have been reaching the most underserved families of Panskura-II Block, Purba Medinipur, with health services, awareness drives, and sanitation support that make a real difference in people’s daily lives.
A. Gouribala Junior Red Cross Unit (GBJRU)
The Gouribala Junior Red Cross Unit has been the health backbone of our organization from the very beginning. Working quietly but consistently across rural villages, GBJRU has organized health camps, distributed medicines, and run awareness campaigns that have touched thousands of lives over three decades. Below are the key activities carried out under this unit.
Blood Donation Camp
We have organized 9 blood donation camps between 1994 and 2024, collecting 334 units of blood over the years and 46 units in 2023-24 alone, encouraging community members to contribute to the gift of life.
Laparoscopy Awareness Camp
Two laparoscopy camps have been held to help women in rural areas understand minimally invasive surgical options, reaching 79 beneficiaries in the most recent camp and raising awareness about modern healthcare choices.
Free Health Check-Up Camp
Over 80 free health check-up camps have been conducted since 1994, offering general medical examination and basic diagnostics to hundreds of villagers who would otherwise have no access to professional healthcare.
Medicine Distribution
Free medicines have been distributed across 8 drives to around 420 beneficiaries, ensuring that the poorest families in the community are not left without essential treatment due to financial constraints.
Health Exhibition
Health exhibitions have been organized in the villages using posters. picture cards, brochures, and placards displayed from dedicated stalls a quiet but deeply effective method to spread health awareness among all age groups.
Audio Visual Health Education
Through audio-visual slide shows, health education is delivered on topics like immunization, mother and child care, pre-natal diagnostics, and family planning, making learning engaging and accessible even for non-literate community members
Mother’s Meeting
Monthly meetings are held for mothers from our Early Childhood Education centres, where basic health and hygiene knowledge is shared, and mothers are encouraged to discuss challenges and exchange ideas in an open, supportive environment.
Pulse Polio Programme
Our volunteers carry out regular home visits as part of the national Pulse Polio initiative, ensuring that no child in the community misses their polio vaccination dose.
Hepatitis B Vaccination Camp
Extensive village-level campaigns using posters, leaflets, and announcements are followed by organized vaccination camps, ensuring widespread Hepatitis B immunization across different villages and age groups.
Health Awareness Camp
4 dedicated health awareness camps have been held, reaching over 419 beneficiaries with practical information on disease prevention, hygiene, and healthy living habits tailored to rural needs.
Plantation Programme
5 plantation drives have been organized, planting over 770 trees across the community to promote environmental health and remind people that a clean, green environment is inseparable from good public health.
Tarpaulin Distribution
Tarpaulins have been distributed to poor and homeless families during emergencies and difficult weather conditions, providing them with immediate shelter and protection as a basic humanitarian gesture.
Tube Well Installation
We have supported the installation of tube wells to address the scarcity of clean drinking water, directly reducing the risk of waterborne diseases for families who previously had no safe water source.
B. Intensive Sanitation Project (ISP) – Jal Satra (Safe Drinking Water)
The absence of proper sanitation hits women and children the hardest In many villages, women are forced to use open spaces for defecation due to restricted mobility and lack of facilities, exposing them to serious health risks. Children suffer equally, as poor sanitation and unsafe drinking water remain the leading causes of preventable childhood illness and death.
Since its inception in 1994, Showraberia Nivedita Seva Niketan has been constructing low-cost household latrines for APL and BPL families across 13 Gram Panchayats of Panskura-ll Block Working in close partnership with Ramakrishna Mission Loksiksha Parishad (Narendrapur). Midnapore Zilla Parishad, and Tamralipta Guchha Samity, our team collects donated materials and manages all installation and construction work on the ground. To date, we have successfully installed 9,284 latrines across villages, and we are actively working towards achieving an open-defecation-free community within the next five years.
The Jal Satra (Safe Drinking Water) initiative runs alongside the sanitation project, ensuring that clean and hygienic drinking water becomes accessible to every household we serve.
Key Activities under ISP
Household Latrine Construction
Low-cost latrines have been built for 9,284 families across 13 Gram Panchayats, ending open defecation and protecting the dignity and health of women and children in particular.
Smokeless Chulah Installation
Over 648 smokeless cooking stoves (chulah) have been installed in poor households, reducing indoor air pollution and protecting women from the serious respiratory harm caused by traditional open-fire cooking.
Safe Drinking Water Support
Tube wells and water access points have been established to bring hygienic drinking water closer to communities, directly cutting the incidence of diarrhoea, cholera, and other waterborne illnesses.
Mission Nirmal Bangla Campaign (2014)
A landmark awareness event was organized at Kashipur Primary School in July 2014, with around 203 students and teachers marching with flags, placards, and slogans to champion open-defecation-free living.

79 sanitation camps have been organized since 1994, educating over 9,264 families on the critical link between clean sanitation, safe water, and good health.

A safe home is the foundation of a healthy life. Recognizing that housing insecurity is one of the deepest challenges facing the rural poor, Showraberia Nivedita Seva Niketan has extended care, assistance, and technical support to help the most vulnerable families access secure shelter.
Slum Rehabilitation Support
We work alongside rural and semi-urban poor communities to facilitate slum rehabilitation and housing infrastructure projects, providing on-ground technical guidance to help families build safe, durable homes they can call their own.
Community Participation in Housing Planning
Our long-term vision through Sukhanibas is to build a process where organized groups of the rural poor actively shape decisions about how their community is developed and managed ensuring housing solutions are community-led, dignified, and lasting.
