Showraberia Nivedita SevaHuman rights, dignity, and equal opportunity lie at the core of everything Showraberia Nivedita Seva Niketan stands for. Under the RUPANTAR initiative, we work across multiple fronts — from protecting vulnerable children to empowering rural women, safeguarding the environment, and ensuring that every community member understands and can claim their rights.
A. Saradamayee Matrimangal O Sishu Kalyan Unit — Mother & Child Welfare
Every year, we organize Sishu Utsav on Children’s Day, bringing together around 100 students from six local primary schools for sports, games, and celebration. Beyond the festivities, our deeper work focuses on children in difficult circumstances — runaways, children of life-term convicts, victims of child abuse, drug abuse, and children with disabilities. We identify these children, provide care, and work to restore their sense of safety and dignity.
For women, we have formed a Self Help Group called Swa Sahayak Dal, comprising 10 rural mothers engaged in income-generating activities like handicrafts and embroidery. Bank loans have been arranged through a nationalized bank to support their growth, and members are equipped with life skills to achieve socio-cultural stability and economic independence.
B. Relief & Rehabilitation — Bharat Memorial Tran O Punarbasan Unit
Since 1995, our volunteer network has responded to natural disasters including floods, tornadoes, droughts, and earthquakes. We focus on meeting the immediate basic needs of affected families — shelter, food, clothing, and medicines. To date, more than 800 families have received relief support. Post-disaster activities also include building repairs and tube well restoration to help communities get back on their feet.
C. Environment — Community Tree Plantation
We run an ongoing Environment Awareness and Plantation Programme across multiple villages and Gram Panchayats of Purba Medinipur. Before each drive, students are educated on the importance of native trees, how to plant them, and how to care for them. Children have shown tremendous enthusiasm, understanding that the trees they plant today will recharge groundwater, prevent soil erosion, and protect local rivers from siltation.
D. Micro Insurance — LIC Jeevan Madhur & Jeevan Mangal
We introduced the LIC Micro Insurance scheme among 4,141 beneficiaries in December 2007, offering affordable life cover to the rural poor with flexible premium options starting as low as ₹15–₹25 per week. Our outreach placed us 3rd in rank across Purba and Paschim Medinipur combined, with a policy coverage of 3,000 beneficiaries in a single year — a reflection of the community’s trust in our guidance.
E. Consumer Affairs
Our Consumer Affairs unit runs awareness camps to educate villagers on their rights as consumers, fair business practices, and access to essential commodities. Multiple camps have been organized across the district, including joint initiatives at Khanyadihi Bazar in partnership with local youth organizations and supported by the Government of West Bengal.
F. Minority Cell
We are actively working to introduce self-employment and vocational training programmes tailored specifically for minority communities in the villages, ensuring that no section of society is left behind in the path to economic progress.
G. Technical Co-operative Unit — Tailoring Training Centre
A tailoring training centre has been set up for rural poor women to build a marketable skill and earn a dignified livelihood. Twelve women are already enrolled and undergoing training, with sewing machines donated by a community supporter to help the centre function.
H. Study Circle
Every Saturday evening, a study circle is held at the organization’s office. Members and volunteers come together to share knowledge, discuss community issues, and plan future programmes. This has been a continuous practice since the founding of the Sangha — keeping the team grounded, informed, and united.
I. Publications — Gostha Behari Maity Memorial Patrika Unit
Our publication unit produces magazines, newsletters, and souvenirs to document our work and share stories from the community. Over 500 copies of the Patrika have been published, including a special edition for our 12th Annual Function.
J. Community Radio Station — Bharat Memorial Community Radio
We are in the process of setting up a Community Radio Station at our office premises in collaboration with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India — a step that will give our community a true voice on the airwaves.
